take a look at that flower…
the lovely lilting petals
the tall and slim stems
the robust glistening leaves
it stands through sun and rain
but what you don’t see…
the soil providing its life
the carbon dioxide rejuvenating
the roots that stretch beneath
the earth to help it stand up straight
the flower wouldn’t stand so tall
or so beautiful or luminous
without all that you can’t see
the flower may not like her petals
for no one sees beyond them
but if you take a moment
to think about what makes
the flower so wonderful
you’ll find it’s the most important
part of the blossom after all
